Class 3 - Miss Sanders 2026 - 2027

Miss Sanders

Sledmere & Wetwang Federation - Class 3

Welcome Back!

We have lots of exciting topics and activities planned during the Autumn term and we cannot wait to explore and learn about them with you all!

Miss Sanders will teach Year 3 on Mondays, Wednesdays, Thursdays and Fridays. Mrs Farrell, our Deputy Headteacher, will teach Year 3 every Tuesday. Mrs Mousdell will be our Teaching Assistant and she will be working Mondays, Tuesdays, Thursdays and Fridays. We will keep you updated with everything that you need to know via Class Dojo so please ensure that you are signed up!

Take a look below to see what we will be getting up to during the Autumn term...

English

In English, we follow the scheme 'Pathways to Write'. The scheme bases each unit around a variety of spoken language, reading and writing objectives taken from the National Curriculum. These are carefully interwoven throughout lessons and repeated throughout topics to ensure that children gain a mastery knowledge of key skills.

Our first book will be 'Coming to England'. Our main writing focus will be to write letters from Floella to her Grandmother to tell her about settling into life in the UK. Our second English book will be 'Winter's Child'. Our main writing focus will be to write a fantasy story based on a fable.

Each morning, children will access their relevant guided reading or phonics group to develop their reading fluency and comprehension skills. Children accessing guided reading will follow the programme 'Pathways to Read'. The children accessing phonics will follow the programme 'Read Write Inc.' as they have previously accessed in EYFS and KS1.

Each afternoon, all children will be accessing the programme 'Pathways to Spell' to develop their spelling skills and gain confidence in using and applying the key spelling rules.

Maths

In Maths, we follow the scheme 'White Rose Maths'. This allows children to practise their fluency, reasoning and problem solving skills related to each unit.

Our first Maths focus will be number and place value where we will recognise the place value of digits within 3-digit numbers. We will also be comparing, ordering, reading and writing numbers to 1000, and solving problems involving these ideas. Children will also practise counting in multiples of 4, 8, 50 and 100. After this, we will move onto addition and subtraction, focusing on adding 1s, 10s and 100s to a 3-digit number. Children will be introduced to formal methods such as columnar addition and subtraction, and will focus on using the inverse operation to check answers. We will then move onto multiplication and division where children will learn the multiplication and division facts for the 3, 4 and 8 times tables. This will build on their knowledge of counting in 2s, 3s, 5s and 10s that they learnt in KS1. Children will also learn to multiply and divide a 2-digit number with a 1-digit number, using their knowledge of multiplication facts that they already know.

Science

In Science, our first topic will be 'Health and Movement'. Within this, we will focus on nutrition and diets of animals, including humans. We will also identify that humans and some animals have skeletons and muscles for support, protection and movement. Our second topic will be 'Light and Shadows'. Within this, children will recognise that we need light in order to see things and that dark is the absence of light. We will also see how light reflects from surfaces and how shadows are formed.
